08The House Notes

A note on the cookies we use.

Effective 4 May 2026

01 What a cookie is

A small piece of memory, kept by your browser.

A cookie is a tiny piece of text a website asks your browser to remember between visits. Some of them are how a site keeps the door from forgetting you between rooms — a saved login, a language preference, a choice you made on a banner like the one we just showed you. Others are how the site keeps a quiet tally of who walked in and where they went. We use as few as we can, and we ask first.

02 What we use

Two categories. That's it.

We deliberately don't run advertising trackers, social-media pixels, A/B-test scripts, or session recorders. We only use what's listed below.

Analytics is aggregated and anonymised. We never share what we collect with advertisers, and we don't sell it.

03 Your choices

Change your mind any time.

You picked something on the banner the first time you arrived. You can re-open it whenever you like — there's a Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page. Click it and the banner comes back, with your current pick already filled in.

If you'd rather close the door entirely, your browser settings let you block or delete cookies from any site, including this one. The exact menu varies by browser, but the search term "cookie settings" will get you there.

If you reject everything, the rest of the site still works. There is no paywall, no locked content, no nag. The home page is where most readers start.
